Description: The Cumberland Bar Association is pleased to welcome Carol Garvan, Legal Director for the ACLU of Maine, for a review of some of the most significant decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court’s last term and a preview of the cases the Court will hear in its next term, which is scheduled to begin on October 2, 2023. After a brief review of the composition, role, and procedures of the U.S. Supreme Court, Garvan will review the key holdings of some of the most significant cases from the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 Term. The focus of the program will then turn to the Supreme Court’s 2023 Term, in which the Court is scheduled to hear cases addressing issues of the use of social media by public officials, redistricting, double jeopardy, and firearms prohibitions, among other issues.
